The California license plate mocking the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel has sparked debate
The personalized California license plate reading ‘LOLOCT7’ that was spotted on a Tesla Cybertruck at the intersection of Jefferson and Sepulveda Boulevards in Culver City blew up the internet last week after the watchdog group StopAntisemitism shared a photo of it on X.
What is ‘StopAntisemitism’?
The organization, founded in 2018, aims to highlight incidents of anger and hatred toward Jewish people. It also focuses on publicizing individuals who have supported Palestinians or criticized Israel’s actions during the ongoing war in Gaza.
After that, the Twitter page of the organization also followed up with tweets like “How did this get processed?”. In response, California DMV later on Thursday apologized, calling the situation in a statement on X.
California DMV responded on X with this:
The family who owned the Cybertruck clarified that the license plate reading LOLOCT7 was not meant to mock the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel. Instead, it was an ‘endearing nod to their grandfather.’ This statement came after the license plate caused a significant uproar, leading the DMV to issue an apology.
The ‘LOLOCT7’ license plate has since been revoked by the DMV.
