In recent years, while high performance has become more accessible without paying a fortune, to get a taste of a brand new Italian timeless icon like a Lamborghini, you’d still have to shell out well over a few hundred thousand dollars. But thanks to the used car market (and depreciation), for as low as $90,000 (which is still a lot, but considering the new prices, it’s not a bad deal if you’re in the market for such cars), you can get your hands on an Italian automobile icon, the Lamborghini Gallardo, making it one of the cheapest V10 exotic cars you can buy right now.

When it comes to cars like Lamborghini, you’re paying for more than just a status symbol. These cars are powered by V12s and V10s, engines that are some of the most sought-after in the car community. Getting your hands on a Lamborghini isn’t easy, as base models alone start at over $200,000 without any optional packages. For the budget-conscious, the used car market is your best bet to snag a Lamborghini with an iconic powertrain. One such example is the Lamborghini Gallardo, which offers the legendary and rare V10 experience at much less eye watery price tag.

Gallardo: The Lamborghini That Ruled the 2000s
Predecessor to the Huracan, and designed originally by Fabrizio Giugiaro and named after a famous fighting bull (keeping up with Lamborghini’s tradition), the Gallardo was Lamborghini’s ‘entry-level’ car that helped spread the Italian manufacturer’s name globally. It was also awarded Top Gear’s Dream Car of the Year in 2006. The car was initially powered by an even-firing 5.0L V10 making 493 hp and 376 lb.-ft of torque, reaching a top speed of 192 mph. Not bad for an ‘entry-level’ ride, right? Well, this so-called entry-level car had an MSRP of over $150,000 when it was new in 2003. Fast forward to the present day, and this Italian beauty has held its value pretty well, especially for certain models. But you can get some decent examples with not that many miles on them for as ‘low’ as $90,000.

Finding a Used Lamborghini Gallardo For Sale
You can find a decently maintained Lamborghini Gallardo on platforms such as Carfax, Cars & Bids, and AutoTrader. Just make sure the title is clean and not a rebuilt one. Also, look into the detailed service history of the car to watch out for any major repairs or damages. Few things to keep in mind are the clutch and any major mechanical repairs. Make sure the clutch is in good condition, otherwise, clutch repair (or any repair on a depreciated old exotic) can be a pain in the butt and the wallet.

All in all, the Gallardo is considered a pretty reliable sports car, especially the 5.2L engine spec that came in later model years, but as always, do your own research before buying. Do keep in mind that most Gallardos listed at the mentioned asking price are the e-gear ones, which is the 6-speed automated manual version with paddle shifters. The gated manual transmissions and some models like the Superleggera can still cost you upwards of $150,000 (This one was sold for over $200,000!).

Remember, only take the plunge if you know what you’re getting into because it isn’t just about purchasing one; parts and maintenance on a used exotic are nearly as expensive as a new one, sometimes even more due to the lack of availability of parts.
